There were reports that Israel used a new, self-developed hypersonic missile when it launched a retaliatory attack on mainland Iran on the 19th (local time).

The missile has a long range to avoid detection by the enemy and has the ability to strike targets with precision, so there is analysis that Iran would not have been able to stop it.

On the 21st, the Times of Israel and the Jewish Post, citing Israel’s Khan public broadcaster, reported that Israel used the ‘Rampage’ air-to-ground missile to strike the Iranian mainland. Khan said he came to this conclusion after analyzing the damage and photos from the attack.

Rampage, first unveiled in 2018, is 4.7m long and weighs 0.5 tons, and is designed to be launched by fighter jets at a distance of 150km from the target. The weight of shells that can be loaded is up to 150kg.

Rampage is guided by a GPS system and can strike targets with precision even when launched from a long distance. It is known to be difficult to detect and respond to because it flies at supersonic speeds.

This also fits with the New York Times (NYT) report on the 20th that Israel used a weapon that could bypass Iran’s radar network.

NYT, citing two Western officials, reported that an Israeli warplane launched a missile with technology that could avoid Iranian radar detection from outside Iranian airspace.

Iranian officials also told the NYT that the military did not detect that anything, including drones, missiles, or fighter jets, had entered Iranian airspace during the Israeli attack on Isfahan in central Israel.

In addition, the BBC analyzed satellite images and revealed that the Israeli military appears to have destroyed a device believed to be the radar of the S-300 air defense system.

ABC News also cited a senior U.S. official as explaining that an Israeli warplane fired three missiles outside Iranian territory targeting an air defense radar site used to protect Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility.

Britain’s Sky News reported that the Israeli military’s F-35 fighter jet was reportedly deployed near Iranian airspace for reconnaissance purposes, leading to speculation that the Israeli military launched the Rampage with an F-35.

However, even if the Israeli military actually used Rampage, it has a range of only 150 km, so it cannot explain the fact that it fired the missile outside Iranian airspace toward Isfahan, in the central inland area. In other words, if Israel were to strike Isfahan with fighter jets rather than drones, they would have to somehow infiltrate inside Iran.

In relation to this, All Israel News, citing local media, speculated that Israeli fighter jets appear to have infiltrated Iran by destroying the air defense systems of each country while passing through the airspace of Syria and Iraq, thus avoiding being shot down.

In fact, on the day of the Israeli airstrike on Iran, parts presumed to be the remains of the Rampage were discovered in the area around Baghdad, Iraq, and there were also reports that an air defense system was destroyed in southern Syria due to an Israeli airstrike.

Accordingly, ABC News diagnosed that this attack was aimed at sending a signal to Iran that Israel has significant combat power, and NYT also said, “It was a calculated airstrike to convey the message that Israel can bypass and paralyze Iran’s air defense system.” “He evaluated.

On the other hand, Reuters believed that it was unlikely that Israel actually mobilized fighter jets to attack Iran. It is pointed out that sending F-35s from Israel to Iran or launching missiles from Israel would have angered Arab countries by illegally passing through the airspace of neighboring countries.

In relation to this, the Iranian side downplayed Israel’s attack, saying that the Israeli military attacked using ‘small drones’ and succeeded in shooting them all down, causing no damage or casualties.

Meanwhile, the Israeli government has not officially stated that it carried out this attack. It has been five days since Israel launched a counterattack against Iran after receiving a large-scale airstrike on the 14th.
