Illegal cruise ship capsizes in China, 12 dead – MBC News VRESP TODAY

Twelve travelers were killed when a boat crossing a river capsized in Qinhuangdao, a city near Bohai Bay, China.

According to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency, on the afternoon of the 13th local time, a boat capsized in the waters of the Qinglonghe River in Liujiaying Township, Lulong County, Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province, and 31 travelers on the boat fell into the water.

Local authorities tried to rescue the travelers, but 12 people died and 10 were injured and are receiving treatment.

Authorities believe that travelers from Tangshan City, Hebei Province, suffered an accident while riding an illegally operated tourist cruise ship.

Xinhua News Agency reported that Hebei provincial authorities began investigating the cause and arrested the ship owner and those responsible.
