While U.S. President Joe Biden has been pursuing a policy of supporting Israel in the war in Gaza, his wife, Jill Biden, has reportedly expressed opposition, saying, “Enough is enough.”

According to the American daily New York Times (NYT) on the 3rd (local time), President Biden introduced this anecdote the previous day (2nd) at a private White House invitation event to hear the opinions of Muslim community officials.

Those invited to the event claimed that one of the participants said that his wife was dissatisfied with his attendance at the event. It is said that her wife was so dissatisfied with President Biden’s policy of supporting Israel in the war in the Gaza Strip that she did not like this event either.

In response, President Biden recently received a message from Ms. Jill saying, “Enough is enough.” He said he was told, “Stop it, stop it now, Joe,” and he responded, “I understand.”

Ms. Jill’s dissenting opinion came at a time when voices opposing the war policy in the Gaza Strip were growing louder, both inside and outside the U.S. government.

The Biden administration has supported Israel since the outbreak of the war in Gaza, but as the war prolongs and the scale of civilian casualties due to the Israeli military’s hard-line attacks increases, opposing voices are emerging even within the Democratic Party and government agencies.

The NYT noted that Ms. Jill has the strongest influence among President Biden’s key aides. At the same time, it was interpreted that Ms. Jill was one of the few people who presented firm opinions to the president regarding policy and political issues.

However, in response to inquiries regarding Ms. Jill’s remarks, White House officials explained that there was no difference of opinion between President Biden and Ms. Jill regarding the conflict in the Gaza Strip. He also added that Ms. Jill did not call on Israel to stop its efforts to counter Hamas.

“Like the President, the First Lady is heartbroken by the attacks targeting aid workers and the continued loss of innocent life in the Gaza Strip,” Jill’s communications director, Elizabeth Alexander, said in a statement. “I want to do it,” he said.

In addition, the NYT also reported that there is no indication that Ms. Jill’s expression of this opposing opinion prompted President Biden to change his policy of supporting Israel.
