The image of a woman going to bed with a sweatshirt wrapped around her face before going to bed has become a hot topic. Many people expressed concern over her unfamiliar appearance, but experts explained that this method helps her sleep better.

According to the New York Post on the 4th (local time), Kelly Gailey, a TikToker from Mississippi, uploaded a video in January showing herself covering her face with a sweatshirt, saying, “I chose this sleep method out of desperation, but it was surprisingly effective.” .

In the video, Gailey folds her T-shirt in half, covers her eyes with the body of the garment, and lies down on the bed. He then wrapped her arms and sleeves around her chin and ears and tied them behind her head.

“It’s the best way to get a good night’s sleep,” Gailey said. “It’s so comfortable, I had the best sleep of my life.”

This video has been viewed more than 24 million times and is very popular. A series of videos imitating Gailey’s sleeping method were posted on TikTok.

However, some netizens raised concerns that the T-shirt may be causing suffocation by interfering with breathing while sleeping.

However, experts explain that there is a scientific reason behind this ‘bizarre’ sleeping method.

Dr. Jessica Andrade, a sleep expert, said that a sweatshirt has the same effect as a ‘swaddle’. Just as wrapping a child in a thick cloth makes the child feel more secure, a sweatshirt can block light and sound while also reducing anxiety.

“The slight pressure exerted by a sweatshirt can create a cocoon-like effect, similar to a weighted blanket,” Dr. Andrade said. “This has been shown to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality in some people.”

Experts also partially sympathized with the concerns about ‘suffocation’. Another sleep expert, Shelby Harris, said, “Don’t wear clothes too tight, and make sure they don’t interfere with breathing. If you feel uncomfortable or don’t get the desired effect, it’s a good idea to try another sleep method.”
