It has been reported that Koreans removed the Rising Sun flag that was hanging at the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia, a tourist attraction. Seo Gyeong-deok, a professor at Sungshin Women’s University who has been steadily carrying out the ‘worldwide campaign to eradicate the Rising Sun flag,’ revealed on the 5th that Koreans are personally removing the Rising Sun flag in various places overseas.

According to Professor Seo, a Korean in his 50s recently removed the Rising Sun flag hanging at the Uyuni Salt Flats in Bolivia during a trip to South America. This Korean sent a related photo to Professor Seo, saying, “In front of the Salt Hotel in the Salt Desert, there is a place where travelers from various countries hang their national flags. When I saw the Rising Sun flag hanging in front of the Taegeukgi, I and my companions removed it.”

Professor Seo revealed that even in Canada, Koreans worked to find the Rising Sun flag pattern used in beer and change the design. A Korean living in Vancouver, Canada sent a protest message to a famous beer company in Vancouver after confirming that it had used the rising sun flag pattern on the cover of a recently released beer.

The beer in question was a beer with Japanese sake added. The next day, the co-founder responded and apologized for not being aware of the history of the Rising Sun Flag. Two weeks later, they said they had changed to a new design and gifted the re-released beer to the Korean.

Professor Seo said, “All over the world, we are hearing about the efforts of Koreans to remove the ‘Rising Sun Flag,’ which symbolizes Japan’s militarism and imperialism. In the past, if they saw the Rising Sun Flag remaining around the world, they would immediately report it, but recently, “I am proud that there are more Koreans who are directly protesting and making changes,” he said.
