U.S.-Israeli-Hamas negotiators plan to travel to Cairo to negotiate new ceasefire – Korean Broadcasting – VOA Korean VRESP TODAY

U.S. and Israeli negotiators are scheduled to travel to Cairo this weekend to negotiate a new ceasefire with Hamas, a Palestinian militant group designated by the U.S. as a terrorist group.

The US White House has confirmed that negotiations will take place in Cairo this weekend.

However, there was no comment on American media reports that the director of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Israeli Mossad director, the Qatari prime minister, and the head of the Egyptian intelligence agency would participate in these negotiations.

A senior U.S. government official told AFP that President Joe Biden sent letters to the Prime Minister of Qatar and the President of Egypt ahead of the meeting, urging them to agree to a ceasefire and obtain a commitment from Hamas to follow it.

Hamas also announced on the 6th that a negotiating team led by Khalil al-Haiya, the second-in-command of the organization, would go to Cairo on the 7th.

John Kirby, White House national security communications adviser, reported that President Biden discussed granting the negotiating team authority to conclude negotiations in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on the 4th.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that it had dismissed two officers in connection with the death of an aid worker.

On the 1st, seven aid workers from World Central Kitchen (WCK) were killed in an Israeli military drone attack in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military announced the results of its investigation into the incident on the 5th, explaining that one military commander mistakenly assumed that Hamas controlled the vehicles moving at night carrying aid workers.
