(My Daily = Reporter Shim Hye-jin) The results of the illegal sports gambling case against Ippei Mizuhara, former interpreter of Shohei Otani (29, LA Dodgers), are expected to be released soon.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred appeared on the FOX Sports Talk program on the 7th (Korean time) and spoke about the investigation process into Mizuhara’s gambling scandal. He said, “What Ohtani said in front of everyone is credible and clear. However, it is our responsibility to confirm the known facts and show the fans the integrity of the baseball world.”

Recently, the major leagues were in an uproar over Otani’s interpreter, Mizuhara. This is because the circumstances of illegal sports were revealed. The U.S. federal government discovered that $4.5 million (approximately 6 billion won) was transferred from Otani’s account to illegal gambler Matthew Boyer.

Mizuhara later admitted this fact, but revealed that Otani had sent the money to pay off his debt. But Otani’s position was different. In her statement, she said she had no idea that Mizuhara had gambled on her and that she was not aware that $4.5 million had been taken out of her account. He said he has never gambled on any sports, including baseball.

Since then, investigative authorities are investigating the identity and purpose of the amount. The Major League Baseball office is also investigating.

These events were bound to have an impact on Otani. Hits came sporadically, but home runs were rare. It was the longest stretch without a home run since his major league debut. His previous record was 31 plate appearances (8 games) set in 2022.

It wasn’t until his fourth at-bat against the San Francisco Giants on the 4th that he finally cleared the fence. It was a home run hit in the 41st at-bat in the opening game and 224 days after the match against the Cincinnati Reds on August 23 last year. He then hit a home run in two consecutive games against the Chicago Cubs on the 6th.

Now that Ohtani’s home run drought is over, the case against Mizuhara seems to be settled to some extent.

Commissioner Manfred said: “The investigation is ongoing. I can’t tell you exactly how much detail we will be able to investigate, but I don’t think it will take long. I think it will be over relatively quickly. The fact that the authorities’ investigation is ongoing may help make progress.” talked.
