Russian President Vladimir Putin has said he is open to dialogue with Ukraine, which the country has been at war with for more than two years.

In an interview with China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported today (15th), a day before his state visit to China, President Putin said, “We are seeking a comprehensive, sustainable, and just resolution to the conflict through peaceful means.”

However, he repeatedly emphasized that peace negotiations must take into account the interests of all countries involved in the conflict, including Russia.

In this regard, President Putin pointed out that Western countries are continuing efforts to “punish,” isolate and weaken Russia, including imposing 16,000 sanctions, and are supplying funds and weapons to Ukraine.

President Putin said he was evaluating China’s “four principles” approach to peacefully resolving the conflict with Ukraine.

He added that through this, China is proposing feasible and constructive measures to realize peace by refraining from pursuing vested interests and constantly escalating tensions, and minimizing the negative impact of conflict on the international economy and supply chain stability.

Meanwhile, President Putin said that he remembers that Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Russia in March of last year, right after his re-election, and had face-to-face talks for over five hours. This unprecedented level of strategic partnership between Russia and China is evident in his choosing China as the first country he visited after taking office. I said that’s why.

President Putin emphasized that Russia and China are working to strengthen foreign policy cooperation for a just multipolar world order, and that all of this is the key to the success of the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era.
