Slovak Prime Minister Roberto Pizzo (59), who was shot on the 15th (local time), is receiving intensive care in the intensive care unit after undergoing emergency surgery.

According to Reuters, an official from the University Hospital in Banska Bystrica, where Prime Minister Pitso’s surgery was performed, met with reporters on the 16th and said that Prime Minister Pitso’s condition had stabilized after undergoing emergency surgery, but that his injuries were serious and he would be managed in the intensive care unit.

This official explained that two teams at the hospital participated in the surgery and performed emergency surgery on Prime Minister Picho for about five hours.

Prime Minister Pizzo was shot at around 2:30 pm the previous day while meeting a supporter after a cabinet meeting in Handlova, a village outside the capital Bratiblava.

It was found that he was hit in the abdomen and chest by three of the five shots fired by the criminal.

The criminal was arrested at the scene and Prime Minister Pizzo was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Slovakian media reported that the culprit was Juraj Sintula, a 71-year-old man who worked for a private security company.

It is known that he is also a member of the Slovak Writers’ Association, who has published three poetry collections.

Slovakia’s National Crime Agency charged him with attempted murder based on evidence obtained through searches of the crime scene, vehicle, and residence.

The Slovakian government and judicial authorities believed that the criminal planned to assassinate Prime Minister Pizzo for political reasons.

In fact, it was reported that Sintula claimed during the investigation that he was opposed to the policies of the government led by Prime Minister Pitso.

Slovak media predicted that if he is found guilty of the charges in court, he could be sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Some local media even questioned whether his bodyguards had done enough before he fired five shots close to Prime Minister Pitso.
