“So pretty”

This is my first impression of the portable beam projector ‘LG Cinebeam Cube’ launched by LG Electronics last March. The cute exterior resembling a projector made me think, “The design is all done.” It felt like an interior accessory rather than a heavy and clunky electronic device. I used the LG CineBeam Cube for a week.

The compact design that can be easily held with one hand is a big advantage. The size is 8·13.5·13.5cm in width, length, and height, and the weight is 1.49kg. The handle is used to rotate 360 degrees and move, and is also used to support the main body and adjust the angle of the screen.

Despite its small size, its performance is as good as that of a heavy professional beam. It creates an ultra-large screen of up to 120 inches (approximately 305 cm diagonal) with 4K (3840×2160) UHD resolution. The high definition and clear contrast between light and dark were impressive.

You may think that it is difficult to use a beam projector in bright daylight without a separate screen, but the LG CineBeam Cube has a separate screen mode so you can watch videos in any environment. The reporter watched ‘Dune 1’ using ‘Expert Mode (bright space, daytime)’ during the day on the weekend, and watched ‘Dune 2’ in ‘Custom Movie Mode’ in the evening of the same day. In addition, it is equipped with △maximum brightness mode, △sports mode, △film maker mode, △clear screen, and △expert mode (dark space, night).

It was also convenient to place the screen on a flat surface and turn it on, and the screen would automatically focus almost immediately, creating a balanced, straight, rectangular (16:9) screen. There is no need to worry even if the LG CineBeam Cube is placed crookedly due to unfavorable circumstances. You can directly adjust the screen alignment in detail using the remote control.

With the built-in Web OS (operating system), you can easily enjoy almost all OTT (online streaming services) such as △Wave △Netflix △TVing △Watcha △Disney Plus △Amazon Prime △Apple TV. After turning on the power and pressing the home button on the remote control, it was immediately connected to OTT, requiring only three operations. It was believed that even the elderly could easily use it, which was the biggest advantage. Miracast and AirPlay 2 are also supported, so the reporter watched cell phone videos using LG Cinebeam Cube.

In addition to the basic charging cable, you can easily connect a PC/laptop through a Type C or HDMI terminal. However, contrary to the description of the product as being portable, it did not have a built-in battery and had to be connected to an electric cord at all times during use, making ‘true’ wireless use difficult. Instead, use an auxiliary battery that can output more than 65W (watts), or if it is an electric vehicle, it can be used outdoors.

The speakers coming from both sides of the small body were also somewhat disappointing. When using it in a large space, it felt like it was ringing due to the lack of sound quality, and when watching a video a little away from the main unit, it was difficult to hear it even if the sound volume was turned up to maximum. Since it provides Bluetooth functionality, you can complement this by connecting an external speaker and using it at the same time. The fact that the driving sound was loud and that the body heats up easily were also felt to be disadvantages.

The product’s shipping price is 1.39 million won.

For customers who want to experience it, LG Electronics allows them to freely experience various contents such as movies, OTT, and games along with products at ‘Gyeongdong Night Market’, a rooftop space at Gyeongdong Market in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. A camping-concept experience space created using LG Cinebeam Cube and LG StandbyMe Go will be open every Friday to Sunday evening until the end of May.
