Prime Minister Netanyahu said in a video message on the 7th (local time), “Hamas’s ceasefire proposal was intended to hinder the operation to enter Rafah,” and “that did not happen.”
“Hamas’s proposals are very far from Israel’s demands,” he said. “Israel will not allow Hamas to restore its evil rule in Gaza and restore its military power to destroy us.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu also said, “Israel cannot accept any proposal that threatens the safety of its citizens and the future of the country,” and added, “I have instructed the negotiation team to respond strictly regarding the release of hostages and security.”
On this day, Israel plans to dispatch a negotiation team consisting of mid-level officials to the ceasefire negotiation site in Cairo, Egypt to understand Hamas’ intentions in accepting the ceasefire plan of the mediating country.
Prime Minister Netanyahu said he plans to continue military operations targeting Hamas while ceasefire negotiations are ongoing.
In this regard, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that military operations would continue in Rafah, seen as Hamas’ last bastion, until Hamas is eradicated or the first hostage is returned.
Earlier this morning, Israeli forces took control of the Gaza side of the border checkpoint leading from Rafah to Egypt.
